Man accused of drunk driving, wrong-way driving pleads not guilty

Most people in Massachusetts who drink alcohol do so responsibly. It is entirely possible for some people to have a drink or two without becoming intoxicated. Unfortunately, officers in the state will jump at the chance to apprehend someone they believe is driving while intoxicated.

A 24-year-old Norwell man pleaded not guilty to several criminal charges after being accused of drunk driving. The reported incident took place when Massachusetts police received telephone calls regarding a driver on Interstate 95 heading northbound on the southbound lanes. Police went to the area where the alleged incident occurred. After that another automobile collided with a guardrail while trying to avoid crashing with the wrong-way driver, who was reportedly driving a silver sedan. No one was injured.

Following that, police were notified that an automobile matching the silver sedan was reportedly spotted on Interstate 93, heading the wrong-way in the southbound lane of the interstate. The operator of the silver sedan then corrected their position and began driving the right way down the interstate. The police eventually pulled over a silver Toyota Corolla, and arrested the man driving it. The man has been charged with wrong-way driving on a state highway, negligent use of a motor vehicle, driving under the influence of drugs and driving under the influence of liquor. The man pleaded not guilty to these charges.

The charges this man faces are undoubtedly serious. Being convicted of drunk driving can result in fines, the loss of one's license, incarceration and the placement of an ignition interlock device on one's vehicle. All of this can seriously impact a person's ability to carry out their normal daily activities, like going to work and running errands. Moreover, the stigma of being a drunk driver can be hard to erase. Therefore, those accused of drunk driving should make every effort to defend themselves, including hiring a DUI attorney to represent them if necessary.
